What is my personal relationship to it?   Does it play a significant role in facint the future?  We will seek answers through knowledge that already exists, knowledge that can come into existence, through art, through personal experience and the schooling thereof. HOW TO IMPROVE INCLUSION OF PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?

What can be done for people with disabilities or special needs

Mpho Makutu, Patrick Essuman, Inken Kuehhirt

"A healthy social life is found, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living."
Modern societies' attitudes frequently contrast with this statement. Many of these struggles become evident in our (lack of) interactions with and integration of people with special needs.
Don't we all have 'special needs'?... and special gifts? How can each individual be offered the opportunity to live out their full potential, to the betterment of everyone around them?
This workshop may end up raising more questions and dilemmas for continued reflection, rather than providing answers. However, by exploring 'casestudies' with an open mind, workshop participants will be empowered to understand the principle of inclusion and develop practical methods for creating accessible environments for people with different special needs, at different stages of their lives. We will explore the significance of inclusive practices, identify and address common barriers and learn about different strategies for promoting accessibility.

Cobie Roelvert, Ruth Thiongo

In this workshop we will focus on the first seven years of childhood which lays the foundation and ground for the rest of life and is thus a most important time. We will look at which health-giving experiences during these years can support the child’s physical body growth and its emotional and developmental needs.
Teachers and parents play an important role in the development of the young child as they absorb every word and action. We will ask the question “How can I ensure the child feels secure and that the world is good?”
Ruth and Cobie will engage you in conversation, games, songs, rhymes and stories to discover how to care for the child, how to engage the child in daily activities, and how it learns.
